Slain soldier remembered for his zest, toughness
DURHAM -- According to his obituary, Roxboro's Pfc. Richard "Richie" Kelvin Jones became the first Person County resident to die in combat since the Vietnam War when insurgents in Mushan Village, Afghanistan, on Aug. 1 attacked his patrol with bombs and rocket-propelled grenades.

DURHAM -- Grandma lay down the law when Richie came to live with her when he was 15: He'd go to school and he'd be in church on Sundays.
