Aldwyth's grand scheme on display
Published July 3, 2009

One look at the work of the artist Aldwyth, and words like "obsessed," "possessed," "fixated," and "fanatical" immediately come to mind. As for the audience, "fascinated," "enthralled," and "mesmerized" barely describe the reactions. The visitor enters the gallery only to be overwhelmed by the stuff the artist uses to make her objects. It takes some concentrated looking to get past the minutiae and discover there is a grand scheme behind each piece.

Strom bumbles badly in his exit
Published August 5, 2009
1 Wed Aug 05, 2009 @ 9:07 AM
Forget that Benjamin Button fellow. What's up with The Curious Case of Bill Strom? During his time travels, Strom served on Chapel Hill Town Council since 1999 and hinted of mayoral aspirations. He has been deeply involved in public life and public service. He served four years as the town's Mayor pro tem and was vice chairman of the Triangle Transit Authority Board of Trustees. He chaired the council's Downtown Economic Development Initiative and the Chapel Hill Library expansion project. He was a liaison between Chapel Hill and UNC, served on the OWASA board, the Orange County Economic Development Commission and the Triangle J Council of Governments. And that's a very short list.

In its rush to approve a solution in search of a problem last year, Chapel Hill Town Council prided itself on adopting an incumbent-protection policy known by the assertive and self-empowering title Voter-Owned Election. Oddly, after a year of very vocally defending the urgency to imposition of tax-funded electioneering, all but one of the council candidates up for re-election gave the program the cold shoulder, and only two of the 12 candidates on the ballot chose taxpayer-fueled campaigns.
