 WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENTS

Hodges-Pierce
Venita Gwynette Hodges and Gerwood Wayne Pierce were married November 8, 2008, at Peace Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Onjerya Kemyatta Gilmore Brown, best friend of the bride, officiated the ceremony at four o’clock in the afternoon. Dinner and dancing followed the ceremony at the Durham Arts Council.
The bride is the daughter of Deacon Bonita Lyon Hodges and the late Rev. James Arthur Hodges of Durham. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon Pierce of Gaston.
The bride was escorted by a picture of her late father escorting her in a spiritual debutante ball when she was 16 years old. Christina Nicole Hodges of Jacksonville, Florida served as her sister’s maid of honor. Tameka Nicole Bell of Knightdale served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were goddaughter of the bride, Olivia JaKem Brown of Durham, friend of the bride, Gerda Dionne Gallop-Goodman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, daughter of the groom, Francesca Washington Griffo of Roanoke Rapids, and cousin of the bride, Valerie Denise Tookes of Oakland, California. The junior bride was cousin of the bride, Alexus Shauntica Hedgepeth of Apex. Flower girls were granddaughter of the groom, Kelsey Moanay Harrison of Durham, and great-niece of the groom, Miya Hockaday of Rocky Mount.
Shiminique Moanay Harrison of Durham and Jared Pierce of Garner served as their father’s best “men.” Groomsmen were cousin of the groom, Charles Hunt Sr., friend of the groom, Robert Dolard, and godson of the bride, Jay Madison Vestal II, all of Durham. The junior groom was godson of the bride, Evan Walter Vestal of Durham. Ring bearer was friend of the bride, Wesley Higgins of Durham.
Ushers were David Alston Jr., Nicholas Atkins, Tyrell Baldwin, DaVante Bell, Jeremy Glover, Johnny Glover Jr., Jamez Hoke, Charles Hunt Jr., Phillip Smith, and Kareem Riggsbee.
Surrogate fathers for the father-daughter dance were the bride’s paternal uncle, Loomis “Ted” Hodges of Smithfield, the bride’s maternal uncle Pastor Joseph Lyon Sr. of Durham and best friends of the bride’s father, Desi Cooper of Durham and Deacon William Robinson of Apex.
Hostesses were Dejah Alston, Tiara Alston, Brittany Atkins, Tyeshia Baldwin, Wanda Evans, Briana Graham, Mildred Henderson, Althea Hinton, Kandace Hoke, Kimberly Hoke, Geraldine Horton, Cloyce Hunter, Shavonne Hunter, Cloyce Lassiter, Jada Lillie, Amara Quintela, Nyesha Sanders, Laurita Vestal, Sandra Walden, Telisha Winston.
Since honeymooning at Sandals Halcyon Beach in St. Lucia, the couple has lived in Durham.

 ANNIVERSARY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Chevez
Jennifer and Adam Chevez celebrated their first anniversary on November 3rd. Adam is serving in the US Army Special Forces in Italy. They attended the Military Formal Ball and spent several days in Venice and Rome.
