Tax rate falls; schools' share of budget grows
PITTSBORO -- School funding claimed a larger than normal chunk of the $80.5 million county budget passed Monday by the Chatham County Board of Commissioners, who reduced the 2009-10 spending plan by 3 percent and lowered the tax rate in the process.

Camp counselor contracts swine flu
PITTSBORO -- A counselor at a local summer camp has been diagnosed with H1N1 flu, also known as swine flu. The individual has received medical care and is recovering at home in another county. The Chatham County Public Health Department has been working actively with the camp to prevent the spread of illness.
